In an intensive drawing exercise we were to sketch at least 100 potential ideas for tables and shelves onto a scroll. In the 120th design, trilobite fossils were distilled to create a dining table. To fit the brief I downsized my design to a coffee table and created alternatives for how to attach all the elements

PROCESS

The thin curved slats were lapped into a wooden spine that the curved ends also sat upon. The spine was attached to an apron to form a T shape. This T shape was locked in between the legs with half laps. The curved ends were then dowel jointed onto the legs, trapping the apron and locking the table together.
